    Course Details

    This course aims to reflect the national occupational standard for a high risk related confined space environment. It covers both water and non-water industry areas.

    Water

    This may include working with potable water, sewage treatment processes, drain and sewer cleaning operations or where the operative is working in or near water or where a confined space is subject to surface water flooding.

    Non-water

    This may include pharmaceutical, petrochemical, asbestos removal, vehicle manufacture and servicing, aeronautical, construction, communications, power, utilities, gas, electrical and mechanical engineering and some elements of work operations in mines, quarries and tunnelling.


    Please be aware that the safe working load (SWL) of person & equipment combined during the practical session of this course is 136KG.


    The following SWL is applicable minus the equipment:

    6160-03 High Risk: 125KG

    • Traversing - simple vertical entry
    • SCBA - Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus

    Assessment

    • Practical observation - top entry no deeper than 3 metres
    • Undertaking dynamic risk assessments throughout the exercise to identify hazards
    • Responding to risks and hazards
    • Dealing promptly with emergencies
    • 90 minute full written assessment’

    This course is aimed at anyone working in a high risk environment and includes preparing to work safely, entering and exiting high risk confined spaces safely, using equipment and tools safely, following procedures and dealing with emergencies.


    This qualification allows you to work inside a high risk confined space, however it does not qualify you to be an Entry Controller for high risk work. If you wish to be an entry controller for high risk, you will need to book onto the C&G 6160-04 Control Entry and Arrangements for Confined Space training course.


    Please note: It is a mandatory requirement that delegates attending a high-risk course will need to be clean-shaven. Delegates arriving who are not clean shaven will not be allowed to attend the course. This is to ensure the correct fitment of SCBA in line with manufacturers' requirements.


    Additional Support:

    Any additional support (reader/scribe) must be pre-arranged and evidence submitted to City & Guilds before the start of the course – This cannot be done on the day.

    Delegates successfully completing the course will be issued with a Certification by City & Guilds, which is valid for 3 years.
