    This course combines the City & Guilds 2391-50 & 2391-51 Level 3 Awards and prepares delegates for the periodic inspection of electrical installations; training them on the principles, practices and legislation for the testing and condition reporting for electrical installations.

    Delegates are provided with the knowledge required to complete the following reports:

    • Electrical Installation certificate and associated schedules
    • Minor Works certificate
    • Electrical Installation Condition Report and associated schedules 
    This course is intended to be taught to experienced electrical installers who have previous training and experience of inspection and testing.

    Delegates should be working in the electrical industry and involved with the inspection and testing process before taking this advanced course. It is also useful for delegates to have an understanding of 3 phase systems.

    Please note: This course is a theory based course ONLY followed by a half day practical assessment to be arranged at a later date, this may be a few weeks after your training course depending on assessment availability.

    Delegates attending this course are required to have the following course books before attending this course:

    • Guidance Note 3: Inspection & Testing, 9th Edition- ISBN 978-1839532368
    • BS 7671:2022 Requirements for Electrical Installations, IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition (Brown) - ISBN 978-1839532184
    • IET On-Site Guide (BS7671:2022, 8th Edition) - ISBN 978-1839532276

    We recommend that you re-read and refresh your knowledge of guidance note 3 before attending the course.

    • Safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
    • Requirements for initial verification of electrical installations
    • Requirements for periodic inspection and testing
    • Requirements for completing the inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service
    • Requirements for the safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations
    • Requirements for testing before circuits are energised
    • Requirements for testing energised installations
    • Requirements for the completion of electrical installation certificates and associated documentation
    • Requirements for the completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation
    • Safety of systems and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
    • Inspection of electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
    • Commissioning electrotechnical systems and equipment

    This advanced course is intended for practising electricians who have already completed relevant formal training and have experience in inspection and testing. Delegates will also require knowledge and experience of three-phase testing.

    Entry requirements

    To be able to attend this course, the delegate must have one of the following:

    • A Level 3 Formal qualification such as C&G 2365-03
    • 6 months work experience and an industry related Level 3 NVQ
    • Be part of a Competent workers Scheme and Provide Evidence of formal training in inspection and testing (NAPIT/NICEIC or GoldCard)


    The delegate must also have:

    • Up to date wiring regulations (i.e. 18th Edition)
    • Ability to demonstrate inspection and testing on single-phase and three-phase installations.
